Apple is adding health features to its AirPods like the ability to measure body temperature and posture monitoring.

Apple is strengthening its position in the field of IoT (Internet of Things) technology,  by including health and wellness features in its Airpods. It seems like Apple isn’t content with AirPods just being utilized for music and taking calls.

According to sources, who spoke to Wall Street Journal say that the company has started assessing the potential for AirPods to check body temperature, monitor body posture, and also serve as a hearing aid. These features are expected to be available next year.

This is not the first time Apple has modified its devices to be used for health purposes.  Apple watches utilizing IoT technology can detect abnormalities in heartbeat even faster than the ECG.  IoT has various applications in almost every sector of society. For instance, IoT technology is extensively being used in the development of mobile applications.

Given the success of the Apple Watch because of its range of included health and fitness features. It’s no surprise, that Apple is looking to expand these capabilities to more devices. As recently, Apple in its iOS15 update has facilitated doctors to keep track of patients’ health metrics like a heartbeat, and blood pressure, etc via health apps. Patients can also directly send their health records to their doctors or families.

Internet of Things (IoT) in healthcare is a big market and is expected to grow from USD 188.2 billion by 2025.
